  • 2 lb Beef boneless
  • 1 tsp Garlic ginger paste
  • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Jeera powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder or to taste
  • 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder or to taste
  • 2 nos Onions finely sliced medium size
  • Coconut milk from ½ a coconut
  • Curry leaves few
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tsp Oil
  • 3 – 4 Cloves Garlic (optional)
  • 1 – 2 Green Chillies – chopped (optional)

Instructions For Kerala Beef Curry Recipe With Coconut Milk

Step-1. In a pressure cooker, boil the coconut milk and keep it aside.

Step-2. In a Kadai, heat 2 tsp oil and cook the sliced onions until they turn soft and golden brown.

Step-3. Then add garlic and sauté them for 1 minute.

Step-4. Now add cloves of garlic (chopped). After 10 seconds or so, you will smell their aroma, add green chillies (chopped) and ginger paste, and fry for a few seconds until the raw smell goes off.(optional).

Step-5. Now add the spices and fry for a few seconds.

Step-6. Add the beef pieces, mix everything well and then cook till the Beef is well cooked (approx 10 mins).

Step-7. Add Garam masala, coriander powder and, turmeric powder, salt to taste, and fry for another 3 – 4 minutes.

Step-8. Now open the pressure cooker lid, and add 2 cups of water(you will have 1 cup in the cooker and 1 cup in a cup).

Step-9. Now add the whole spices again and pressure cook till they are cooked, approx 20 minutes.

Step-10. Now open the cooker, add coconut milk and close the lid again.

Step-11. Now heat 2 tsp oil in a Kadai or wok on medium flame and fry the finely sliced onions until golden brown (1 – 2 mins).

Step-12. Then add garlic and saute them until they get cooked (approx 1 – 2 mins).

Step-13. Now add curry leaves and mix them well.

Step-14. Now add this to the pressure-cooked Beef in the cooker and mix everything well by mixing it with a ladle.

Step-15. You will get the aroma of onion leaves from this mixture, so close your eyes and take a deep breath.

Add water. If you feel it’s too thick, close the cooker lid and pressure cook for another 10 minutes on low flame. (slowly release the steam; otherwise, it will burst)

Step-16. Open the cooker lid and take a deep breath, you will get the aroma of onion leaves, and coconut milk will make this dish a little sweet.

Step-17. Add water if you feel it is too thick.

Step-18. Close the cooker lid, wait for the steam to come out (slowly), then open it and mix everything well with a big spoon to form a soft curry.

Step-19. Now add garam masala powder and red chili powder, and fry for 2 – 3 minutes over low flame.

Step-20. Add salt to taste and curry leaves and mix it well.
