Ingredients

  • Chicken – ½ kg
  • Shallots (small onion) -½ cup
  • Tomato – 1chopped
  • Pepper(Milagu/Kali Mirch) – ½ tsp
  • Cloves (Karampu/Lavang) – 4
  • Green Chilli – 2
  • Garlic – 8 pearls
  • Ginger – 1 inch
  • Cinnamon stick (Pattai/Dalchini) – 1 inch
  • Fennel(Sombu/Saunf) – 1 tsp
  • Poppy Seeds (Khus Khus/Kasa Kasa) -½ tsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Roasted Gram Dal(Pottu kadalai) -¼ cup
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Chicken masala powder – 2 tbsp

Directions

Step-1. Wash and cut the chicken into medium-sized pieces.

Step-2. Add ginger-garlic paste and turmeric powder to the chicken. Mix well and leave for 15 minutes.

Make a fine paste of the fennel seeds, pepper, and cloves using a mixer, add to the chicken and mix well. Cook this masala on a low flame for 5 minutes or till the raw smell goes off. Put off the stove and cool it down completely.

Now add this masala to the cooked chicken and mix well.

Step-3. Add ¼ tsp of turmeric powder little salt and mix well.

Step-4. Add chicken lightly fried with Pete seeds, jeera, mustard, and curry leaves. Mix well with the above masala(marinate). Add shallots and tomato and cook for 2 minutes on a medium flame.

Step-5. If necessary, add a little salt and turmeric powder, and mix well for 2 minutes. Slightly roast the dal with half a tsp of oil and add to the gravy. Pepper powder can also be added if you like spicy chicken curry. Cook for 2 more minutes on medium flame.

Step-6. Add little water from the boiled chicken(1 cup). Mix well and simmer till oil forms on top.

Step-7. Check for taste, add water as required, and cook till the gravy reaches the desired consistency. You can add a little garam masala powder for flavoring.

Step-8. Turn off the stove and add a few curry leaves before serving hot with dosa/idly/dosa batata poories and coriander chutney.
