Best 7 Health Benefits Of Haupia Cake Recipe

1. Cake Is Delicious

Haupia cake is the oldest known Hawaiian dessert.  It was a staple of Hawaiian cuisine, and it was made in wood-fired ovens heated with sticks or stones.

You can even make this same recipe with a clay oven!

2. Rich In Vitamins And Minerals

This dessert is very high in vitamins and minerals. The recipe contains 20% calcium, 12% iron, and more than 150% of vitamin A, E, and B-complex groups.

3. Calcium Helps Build Strong Bones

Calcium is essential for building strong bones and teeth. Hawaiians may have consumed this dessert at least twice daily to get sufficient amounts of calcium from the coconut milk or the sweet potatoes added to the main meal.

4. Helps Prevent Osteoporosis

Calcium helps maintain normal bone strength and density.  As we age, our bodies lose calcium faster than we can grab it through food.

Calcium concentrations in the diet are particularly important for older adults, as osteoporosis develops in about 50% of postmenopausal women.

5. Helps To Reduce Risk Of Cancer

Coconut milk contains lauric acid, converted into monolaurin in the body.  Monolaurin aids in the destruction of lipid-coated viruses such as herpes, Epstein-Barr, measles, influenza A virus, cytomegalovirus (CMV), and many others.

It also helps boost the immune system and helps reduce the growth of Candida Albicans (yeast infection).

6. Helps To Control Blood Sugar

Coconut milk contains a good amount of healthy fat, which is necessary for functioning pancreatic enzymes that digest protein, fats, and carbohydrates.

Mono and saturated fats are good sources of energy needed for the proper working of the brain and nervous system.

7. Helps In Weight Loss

Coconut milk contains about 30% fewer calories than cow’s milk or almond milk and has zero cholesterol!

Can I Freeze It?

Suppose you want to freeze the coconut cake recipe, then no problem.  Just place it in a freezer bag and store the cake in the freezer for up to 2 months.

You can also wrap it well with plastic wrap before freezing.

How Long Does It Last?

The cake will stay fresh for about 3 days in the refrigerator and about 2 months in the freezer.  If you have a cake that lasts longer in the fridge, then freeze it to have it later.

Is It Good For Diabetic?

The answer is yes.  Coconut milk has a low glycemic index (GI) due to its lauric acid content, which slows down the rate of digestion and glucose release into the bloodstream.

Low-GI foods also have a high content of nutrients and fiber, which help to regulate blood sugar levels.
