Ingredients:

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix (such as Duncan Hines®)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 ⅓ cups water
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 container (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed (such as Cool Whip), divided
  • Caramel and almonds coating
  • 40 gm butter — melted
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda  
  • 3 egg whites
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Step-1. Preheat the oven at 350°F and grease the 13-by-9-inch baking pan

Step-2. According to the package instructions, prepare a cake mix, then stir in the baking powder and flour. Add sugar, water, oil, and vanilla extract (if using) into it and stir until well mixed. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into its center comes out clean. Remove and let it cool in the pan

Step-3. Meanwhile, prepare a custard cream. Combine the flour and sugar in a medium saucepan, then stir in the water. Beat egg yolks lightly, then whisk into the flour mixture until smooth. Cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly (do not boil)

Step-4. In another bowl, beat egg whites with a mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form; gradually add in sugar and continue beating until glossy peaks form.

1. Place a cake layer flat side down in front of you. Combine the butter, flour, and cocoa powder in a microwave-safe bowl.  Mix well.

2. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir and microwave for another 30 seconds until brown and beginning to boil. Immediately pour over the cake layer and spread to cover it completely.  Repeat with all remaining cake layers

3. Refrigerate with the remaining custard cream for about 2 hours.

4. To serve, slice into squares (about 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick) and top with the caramel and almonds. Serve in a dessert dish or cake stand.

Notes: You can decorate this cake with white chocolate or another colored frosting as well. Also, this cake can be steamed and sliced into thin slices.
